This paused tape is another perfect snapshot of the mid 90s, with an interesting interview and a famous freestyle from Nas, when he was still Nasty Nas. Tim drops new tracks off the Jeru LP, the upcoming Nice & Smooth LP, gives someone called Banksy a shout-out and even mentions the time Shortee Blitz beatboxed on stage at the Snoop & Dre show in Brixton the previous weekend. Future thinking, decisive decision-making, and leadership provide the foundation for the analysis of battle command in theory, doctrine1 and history. Classical and modern military theorists make the commander the central point for leadership and vision. The art of command, leadership, and generalship have long been subject to review and scrutiny. This has taken on additional emphasis with the publication of U.S. Army Field Manual (FM) 100-5, Operations, in 1993. FM 100-5 presented a discussion...

We discuss the possibility of testing the principle of equivalence with solar neutrinos. If there exists a violation of the equivalence principle quarks and leptons with different flavors may not universally couple with gravity. The method we discuss employs a quantum mechanical phenomenon of neutrino oscillation to probe into the non-universality of the gravitational couplings of neutrinos. We develop an appropriate formalism to deal with neutrino propagation under the weak gravitational...

This paper presents a plan-based architecture for response generation in collaborative consultation dialogues, with emphasis on cases in which the system (consultant) and user (executing agent) disagree. Our work contributes to an overall system for collaborative problem-solving by providing a plan-based framework that captures the {\em Propose-Evaluate-Modify} cycle of collaboration, and by allowing the system to initiate subdialogues to negotiate proposed additions to the shared plan and to...

This paper extends an earlier high-temperature lattice calculation of the renormalized Green's functions of a $D$-dimensional Euclidean scalar quantum field theory in the Ising limit. The previous calculation included all graphs through sixth order. Here, we present the results of an eleventh-order calculation. The extrapolation to the continuum limit in the previous calculation was rather clumsy and did not appear to converge when $D>2$. Here, we present an improved extrapolation which...

We address the possibility of bounding the spectral index $n$ of primordial density fluctuations, using both the cosmic microwave background (cmb) anisotropy and data on galaxies and clusters. Each piece of galaxy and cluster data is reduced to a value of $\sigma(R)$ (the linearly evolved {\em rms} density contrast with top hat smoothing on scale $R$) which allows data on different scales to be readily compared. As a preliminary application, we normalise the spectrum using the ten degree...

Degraded text recognition is a difficult task. Given a noisy text image, a word recognizer can be applied to generate several candidates for each word image. High-level knowledge sources can then be used to select a decision from the candidate set for each word image. In this paper, we propose that visual inter-word constraints can be used to facilitate candidate selection. Visual inter-word constraints provide a way to link word images inside the text page, and to interpret them systematically.

We describe a canonical covariant formulation of the Green-Schwarz Superstring which allows the construction of a new covariant action canonically equivalent to the Green-Schwarz action but subjected only to first class constraints. From this action the correct BRST operator for the quantization of the Green-Schwarz Superstring may be constructed. Also the gauge fixed action in the Light-Cone gauge may be reobtained. The action presented in this letter generalizes in a non-trivial form the...

For a certain class of Lie bialgebras $(A,A^*)$ the corresponding quantum universal enveloping algebras $U_q(A)$ are prooved to be equivalent to quantum groups Fun$_q(F^*)$, $F^*$ being the factor group for the dual group $G^*$. This property can be used to simplify the process of quantization. The described class appears to be wide enough to contain all the standard quantizations of infinite series. The properties of the groups $F^*$ are explicitly demonstrated for the standard deformations...

The elements of the wide class of quantum universal enveloping algebras are prooved to be Hopf algebras $H$ with spectrum $Q(H)$ in the category of groups. Such quantum algebras are quantum groups for simply connected solvable Lie groups $P(H)$. This provides utilities for a new algorithm of constructing quantum algebras especially useful for nonsemisimple ones. The quantization procedure can be carried out over an arbitrary field. The properties of the algorithm are demonstrated on examples.

The interaction between two electrons with opposite spins simultaneously residing on the resonant level is modeled by an Anderson Hamiltonian. The electron correlations lead to the appearence of a new feature in the frequency dependence of the conductance. Hard thermal loops play a central role in the theory of long wavelength excitations of a quark-gluon plasma. We show in this paper how our recent derivation of their generating functional from the Dyson-Schwinger equations sheds light on their semi-classical nature and their remarkable gauge structure. In particular, we show that our kinetic equations can be written in terms of auxiliary gauge fields with zero curvature. Remarkably, the latter property determines entirely the dynamics in the...

{\it If gravity is a metric field by Einstein, it is a Higgs field.} Gravitation theory meets spontaneous symmetry breaking in accordance with the Equivalence Principle reformulated in the spirit of Klein-Chern geometries of invariants. In gravitation theory, the structure group of the principal linear frame bundle $LX$ over a world manifold $X^4$ is reducible to the connected Lorentz group $SO(3,1)$. The physical underlying reason of this reduction is Dirac fermion matter possessing only exact...

I study the critical behavior of a two-dimensional dimer-trimer lattice model, introduced by K\"{o}hler and ben-Avraham [J. Phys. A {\bf 24}, L621 (1991)], for heterogeneous catalysis of the reaction $\frac{1}{2}A_{2}+\frac{1}{3}B_{3} \rightarrow AB$. The model possesses infinitely many absorbing states in which the lattice is saturated by adsorbed particles and reactions cease because only isolated vacancies are left. Results for various critical exponents show that the model exhibits the...

The pathspaces ${\cal P_A}$ over the ${\cal A}$-Graphs are isomorphic to the pathspaces over Coxeter $A$-graphs that appear in FB models. By parameterizing the t-j model we present a new electron correlation model with one free parameter for high-temperature superconductivity. This model is of $SU_{q}(1,2)$ symmetry. The energy spectrums are shown to be modulated by the free parameter in the model. The solution and symmetric structures of the Hilbert space, as well as the Bethe ansatz approach are discussed for special cases.

Contrary to the usual case when the quark mass spectrum is defined by that of the quark Yukawa couplings while the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs field remains universal, we suggest to consider the opposite situation. Each generation of quarks and leptons is associated with its own Higgs doublet, while the Yukawa couplings are the same. This situation naturally arises in the framework of finite supersymmetric Grand Unification scenario. Nondegeneracy of the quark mass spectrum is then...

I give an introduction to the theory of preasymptotic effects based on the systematic OPE/HQET expansion in $1/m_Q$ where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass. The general idea is explained in two most instructive examples, with an emphasis on pedagogical aspects. Some important results of the last year are reviewed. In discussing the issue of the quark-hadron duality, one of the basic ingredients of the theory, I prove that the operator product expansion {\em per se} is an asymptotic expansion. The...
